On March 9th 2010, the Regina Board of Education voted to adopt the following motions based on the Renewing Regina Public Schools Plan.
1) That, effective with the 2010-11 school year, Centennial School be designated a dual-track school and its French Immersion attendance area boundary established and that of École Elsie Mironuck School modified as deemed advisable; with pupils living in the newly–established Centennial French Immersion attendance area eligible for transportation (in accordance with established procedures) to École Centennial School commencing with the 2010-11 school year. 2) That Ken Jenkins School be closed at the end of the 2009-2010 school year and that its attendance area be consolidated with that of École Elsie Mironuck School (English program); with all current regular Kindergarten to Grade 8 pupils (and their siblings) attending Ken Jenkins School to be eligible for transportation (in accordance with established procedures) to either École Elsie Mironuck or Ruth M. Buck School commencing with the 2010-2011 school year.
The school division will establish a new a French Education program at Centennial School for the 2010/11 school year. This school will be welcoming French Immersion students from École Elsie Mironuck who reside in the new French Immersion Attendance Area. This area is: north of the Ring Road and that area south of the ring road west of McCarthy Boulevard and north of Dewdney Avenue. Centennial School will continue to offer English language instruction. It will also meet the French immersion program needs of students in North/West Regina. Parents interested in French Immersion for their children should contact the Centennial School or any Regina Public French Immersion School.
Ken Jenkins School will be closed at the end of the 2009-10 school year and students from that school will be welcomed at their choice of École Elsie Mironuck School or Ruth M. Buck School.
Regina Public Schools administration has already met with staff in the involved schools. Division staff have also begun planning with the School Community Councils, staff, parents, students and others who work closely with the involved schools to develop a transition plan that creates a smooth transition for all students and staff.
