McLurg School Reopens on May 2, 2023

MAY 1, 2023 — We are pleased to inform you that all classes at McLurg School will resume on Tuesday, May 2nd. School staff were working at the school on Monday, and we are confident that the work that has been completed allows us all to have a safe return to the school.

There was considerable work completed since we first closed the school after the water main break and subsequent flooding. For your information:

          - We have conducted thorough air quality testing and the results indicate a safe return to the school building.
          - We have completed extensive work to repair the water main break and to replace, repair and test affected building systems, such as electrical panels, heat, water, ventilation and safety systems.

You may also be interested to know that the school has brought in bottled drinking water for students and staff. We have also tested the water and it is safe to drink. We are taking this extra step to ensure your peace of mind, especially as the weather gets warmer and students will surely be drinking more water.

Over the coming months, our facilities staff will be working on installation of new boilers and ductwork in the sub-basement area where there are no classrooms or offices. Please note that this continued work will not interrupt the school day and will be completed in an isolated environment with air filters present so as not to impact the school’s air quality.

We trust this update is helpful and reassures you that, despite several delays, we will all see a safe return to school on Tuesday, May 2nd. I know I speak for the school staff and administration when I say that we are all looking forward to seeing students back in McLurg’s classrooms!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the school at 306-791-8496.
